Smathers Libraries is a proud ABC Charter Signatory
In November 2024, Judith C. Russell, Dean of the University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries, signed the Accessible Books Consortium (ABC) Charter for Accessible Publishing to show the Libraries' commitment to making LibraryPress@UF e-books accessible to all. The Accessible Books Consortium promotes the production of e-books and other digital publications in accessible formats such as braille, audio, or large print for persons who are blind, visually impaired, or otherwise print-disabled.

The Accessible Books Consortium Charter for Accessible Publishing contains aspirational principles that publishers should follow to make their digital publications accessible to persons with print disabilities including:
- Raising awareness among, and provide technical training for, relevant staff.
- Testing digital publications for accessibility, incorporating appropriate feature descriptions and metadata.
- Promoting the adoption of accessibility standards.
